In the border city of Reyhanlı (Hatay), which hosts a high density of refugee families, our organization has implemented a targeted Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) program. This initiative addresses the invisible wounds of war, focusing on refugee children who have experienced trauma, displacement, and the loss of normalcy.
Methodology: Healing Through Engagement The program goes beyond basic recreational activities, employing structured, trauma-informed methodologies to help children process their experiences in a safe environment.
Structured PSS Activities: Utilizing art therapy, group play, and guided expression sessions to help children articulate their emotions and reduce anxiety.
Social Cohesion: fostering a sense of belonging and peer support among refugee children, combating the isolation often associated with displacement.
Resilience Building: Equipping children with positive coping mechanisms to navigate the stressors of adapting to a new country and difficult living conditions.
Impact & Reach To date, this intervention has directly benefited over 300 refugee children. By providing a consistent “Child-Friendly Space,” we have observed significant improvements in:
Emotional Regulation: Reduced signs of aggression and withdrawal among participants.
Social Integration: Enhanced ability to interact healthily with peers and integrate into the host community context.
Conclusion This project is an investment in the future generation, ensuring that the psychological scars of conflict do not define their lives, but rather, are met with healing, support, and hope.
