Education Crisis in Gaza Deepens as Schools Remain Destroyed and Learning Disrupted

The education system in Gaza Strip is facing one of the most severe crises in its history, with humanitarian organizations warning that an entire generation of children may lose access to education due to widespread destruction and prolonged disruption of schooling.

According to recent humanitarian reports, a large percentage of schools across Gaza have been damaged or destroyed during the conflict, leaving hundreds of thousands of children unable to return to classrooms. As a result, many educational facilities have either stopped operating entirely or have been converted into shelters for displaced families.

Estimates suggest that more than 650,000 school-aged children are currently struggling to access education. For many families, the priority has shifted toward survival, shelter, and basic necessities, making regular schooling increasingly difficult.

In response to the crisis, teachers and volunteers have attempted to create temporary learning spaces in tents, damaged buildings, or community shelters. These informal classes aim to maintain some level of education and provide children with a sense of normalcy amid ongoing instability.

However, these efforts remain limited compared to the scale of the challenge. Children often lack basic learning materials such as books and supplies, while many are coping with psychological trauma caused by conflict, displacement, and uncertainty about the future.

Humanitarian organizations emphasize that rebuilding the education system in Gaza will require long-term international support, including the reconstruction of schools, assistance for teachers, and the creation of safe learning environments.

Despite these challenges, many children in Gaza continue to hold onto hope. For them, education represents more than schooling—it is a pathway toward stability, dignity, and the possibility of a better future.
